Wilderness church at the Lake Pielpajärvi

Description:
The winding trail passes through an old pine forest, skirts ponds and crosses an isthmus between two lakes near the half-way point. It eventually leads to a natural meadow where the church stands in a birch grove, along with other buildings. Return by the same trail.

Length and duration: 2 x 4,5 km, about 4-6 hours.

Difficulty: Medium. No big climbs. The trail is rocky.

Sights: Wilderness church at Lake Pielpajärvi, built in 1752-60. Services still held at the church a few times a year, for example at Midsummer. The church is always open.

Services: Day cabin and fireplace near the church. Outdoor WC. Causeways in wet places along the trail.

Start and finish: Inari, about 2,5 km down Opistontie. Information board and parking lot.

Markings: Red marks on trees and stones. Sings.
