Nuorgam

Nuorgam is small, Finland’s and EU’s northernmost village. Nuorgam lies on the bank of Europe’s best Salmon River Teno. Nuorgam is on the border of Norway, just nearby Arctic Ocean. Nuorgam is one of the three villages in Utsjoki municipality.

In Nuorgam there is 250 inhabitants and their sources of living are trading with Norwegians and travelling services (accommodation, restaurant and guide services). In Nuorgam people speak Finnish, Sámi and Norwegian in their everyday life.

Lake Pulmankijärvi and its beautiful river valley with its gorgeous landscapes are old bottom of a fjord of Arctic Ocean. Here the landscape is ideal hiking terrain. Hiking, cross country skiing and snowmobile routes from Nuorgam to Sevettijärvi go through Pulmankijärvi. On the southern side of Nuorgam there is Kaldoaivi wilderness are.

From Nuorgam village it is good to do day trips to Norway and to Arctic Ocean for example to different resorts by Varanger fjord. Other attractions in Nuorgam area are salmon fishing in River Teno, ice fishing in lakes up in fjeld area, willow grouse hunting, bird watching in Varanger area, hiking, fishing in Arctic Ocean and snowmobiling in real northernmost Lapland.

In Nuorgam there is custom and border guard detachment. You can also cross the border of Norway. Lower level school and chapel are in Nuorgam. Worth to se is also famous salmon fishing area Alaköngäs rapids and nearby it goes old road.
