UTSJOKI CHURCH CABINS

The old church cabins by the Utsjoki Church form an interesting sight. The church cabins mainly date back to the nineteenth century, with the oldest dating back to the eighteenth century. The churchgoing folk stayed in these cabins when going to church and market, which was arranged at Christmas, Easter, Annunciation Day, Midsummer, Saint Michael’s Day, and on All Saints’ Day. The church cabins are located in a picturesque location on the shores of the Mantojärvi Lake, by Highway 4, approximately 6 kilometres before the Utsjoki village. The grounds also have a handicrafts shop and cafeteria, the proceeds of which go to missionary work.
