KAAMANEN – ACTIVE VILLAGE OF FOUR WINDS
Kaamanen is a peaceful Inari Sámi village in the northern part of Inari municipality. In Kaamanen people live on natural livelihoods, tourism and craftmanship. Fishermen and bird observers find easily their target in Kaamanen. The region offers various services for tourists by the main road. ”On the road to north” can the signs of Lappish war still be seen.
TOIVONIEMI BIRD WATCHING TOWERThe Toivoniemi Bird Watching Tower, located at the mouth of the Kaamasjoki River, is probably the best place for watching birds in the Inari area. This 12-metre high bird watching tower has been constructed in a central location close to a bird nesting area, allowing views of the entire estuary and bird wetland. The area is home to over 70 different species of birds. |

TUURUHARJU NATURE TRAILThe Tuuruharhu Nature Trail is located atop the Tuuruharju Ridge along the Inari – Utsjoki road. When approaching from Inari, drive past the Karigasniemi road junction, as well as the sandpit on the left and the parking place. When ascending to the top of the Tuuruharju Ridge, a small forestry vehicle road starts on the left. Take this road for about 50 metres, and in front of you is the car turning place and trail departure point. At first, the trail descends to the shores of the River Kaamasjoki at the Tuurukoski Farm. The trail follows the river shore for approximately 1.5 kilometres, and ascends to the top of the ridge on the left after the Kovakoski rapid water section. The ascent is steep, but the landscapes to be viewed make it all worthwhile. The remainder of the trail is an old road foundation. The trail has no structures to help travel, and can probably be classed as a hiking trail. Mostly easy to hike, except one hill. |
