LEMMENJOKI

Lemmenjoki village is located 45 km west of Inari on the bank of river Lemmenjoki. The region is famous for history of gold panning and beautiful nature of Lemmenjoki National park. The National park of Lemmenjoki is today the largest national park in Finland. Lemmenjoki valley, tens of kilometres long, and surrounding fells Maaresta and Viipus offer wonderful wilderness scenery for hikers and skiers. Boat trip from Njurga to the gold sites through Ravadas falls is an unforgettable experience!

LEMMENJOKI NATIONAL PARK

The Lemmenjoki National Park covers 2634 square kilometres and is Finland’s largest forest national park, as well as being Europe’s largest remaining roadless wilderness. The basic section of the national park has marked trails to camping plots, and signposted hiking routes covering 100 kilometres. Along the route is a gold digging site, wilderness, Morgamin Kultala and Kultahamina, and guided excursions are also arranged to Lemmenjoki. The area also has the Morgamoja monument to commemorate the first golden nugget found in 1945.

 

RIVER BOAT TRIP TO THE RAVADASKÖNGÄS WATERFALL

Experience-rich river boat trips may be taken along the River Lemmenjoki with shores of beautiful countryside. Once at the destination, you will see the white water of the Ravadasköngäs Waterfall and hear how it roars.

KAMMIGALLERIA - ARTSTUDIO KIKKA LAAKSO

Kammigalleria is a sun shaped story of reindeer, reindeer handicrafts and art. Kammi tour includes presentation of reindeer, reindeer husbandry, traditional handicrafts and modern art handicrafts. Gallery programmes on request. In my workshop I make individual jewellery, knives and art handicrafts from reindeer horn, birch burl and reindeer leather.

LEMMENJOKI RIVER ENCHANTMENT – RIVER BOAT CRUISE IN THE LEMMENJOKI NATIONAL PARK AND VISIT TO KAMMIGALLERIA

We arrive at the Lemmenjoki Kammigalleria, where we will see the antler wonders of Kikka Laakso, handmade reindeer antler jewellery, knives and other artistic items. The Kammigalleria has a Lappish tepee structure presenting a fascinating tale and display of reindeer, reindeer handicrafts and art, and genuine River Lemmenjoki gold nuggets. After the Kammigalleria tour, we continue our journey to Ahkun Tupa Lemmenjoki Holiday Village, located in the Njurguilahti bay of the Lemmenjoki River. We board the NUOLI river boat for a short cruise through the spectacular River Lemmenjoki countryside. On the journey we will see the Joenkielinen Fell and picturesque river landscapes. After the trip we will try gold panning on the Ahkun Tupa shores, and every participant will get a souvenir bottle with golden nuggets from the Lemmenjoki River. After gold panning, we savour lunch at the Ahkun Tupa restaurant: homemade mushroom soup, reindeer vegetable stew, berry pie and coffee.

RIVER BOAT TRIP TO THE RAVADAS WATERFALL AND FELTING COURSE

Larger groups are split into two groups. One group departs on a boat trip to the Ravadas Waterfall, while the other group stays to listen to a presentation of the history of felting, and working wool into felt. Each participant will have the opportunity to make their own little felt souvenir, and will see how Felting Artist Kaija Paltto uses the rolling technique to make wall decorations. We dine in Huopapirtti, savouring reindeer or salmon soup followed by a serving of coffee and cake, after which the groups will swap places. With smaller groups, the programmes may be implemented in succession, and dining may even be arranged outdoors.
