AILIGAS FELL

Ailigas is a traditional nature spot and also houses an observatory for Utsjoki astronomers. Finnish Lapland has three fells named Ailigas, all located in the Municipality of Utsjoki, and near the Tenojoki River. The northernmost Ailigas Fell is located in Karigasniemi, close to the place where the boundary river with Norway changes its name to become the Tenojoki River. This Ailigas Fell is a magnificent 620 metre high fell. The next Ailigas Fell ascends steeply from the shore of the Tenojoki River at the Nuvvus village point, and has been given the name Nuvvus-Ailigas. This is also a handsome fell with a respectable height of 535 metres. The third and southernmost Ailigas Fell is the local fell for the Utsjoki parish village, and is the smallest of the Ailigas fells with a height of only 342 metres. Each Ailigas fell summit has a television and other communications link mast.
